Why do we need to press? -Along with information papers have entertainment function, celebs/ sports etc.  -We need to be informed about opinions and ideas other than our own as it provides a forum for debate. -Press are called the fourth estate, to reflect their important role in society. Why do people consume news? - diversion - Escape from routine + problems to take your mind off things. - Personal relationships - able to be a part of conversations or conversely for companionship. - Personal identity - to reinforce values of change opinions. - Information - factors which could affect you, staying up-to-date.

NEWS Key terms- Production = sales of newspapers are decreasing because they are expensive commodites, Large amount of material and highly trained + Educated staff. Distribution = once produced, shipped across country (Expensive), web-Based-no global boundaries free papers are booking the trend of declining. Marketing = newspapers need to market circulation/promote their brand to encourage readership. 1. Advertising on TV 2. Synergy deals with other companies Newspaper circulation- Circulation refers to the number of newspapers that have been distributed, Not those is sold. Ownership- media barons = wealthy individuals who own a paper or group of papers. Trusts = legal arrangement where finances from the owner are transferred to manage the control/running of the newspaper. Cross media conglomerates = global institutions who own numerous media outlets. These may be owned by individuals or groups.

Minecraft information : Minecraft was created by Markus Perrsons and made under the company Mojang. It’s a sandbox game with two main modes, survival and creative. At first people found out about Minecraft through gamers word and the game had 16 million users on release. Originally, the game is only available on PC yet is now available on X on multipOriginally, the game is only available on PC yet is now available on at least 15 different platforms including Xbox,  PlayStation, WiiU etc, with JavaScript enabling multi platform circulation. In 2014 Minecraft was sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion.

Minecraft terminology  Technological convergence = When a piece of hardware takes on the functions of others. An all in one device. Production = planning, developing and making a product. Distribution = all the processes linked to delivering the product to the audience. Circulation = the number of copies that are sold. Consumption equals the way products are used by the audience/consumer. Conglomerate ownership = ownership by a company that owns numerous other companies. Vertical integration = The merging of two businesses that are at different stages of production. Diversification equals the process of the company and lodging or varying its range of production.
